James O. Putnam letter : Buffalo, to R. C. Hill, 1895 Aug. 15.

Response to Hill's request for recollections of Cyrus R. Lee, who rose from clerk to first assistant postmaster, and served in that capacity during Putnam's term of office as postmaster of Buffalo. When the Erie County Savings Bank was organized in 1855, Lee became the bank's secretary.

Born in Attica, N.Y. in 1818. Served as chancellor of the University of Buffalo, deputy postmaster of Buffalo, state senator, and minister to France and the Belgian Court.
